At my friend's house tonight, I met a guy who seemed very 'out of touch'. He confessed to not knowing anything much about anything current. It could of been his way to get to know us all, or get us all to talk. Nevertheless, that tactic worked.
My friend, Jeff had started an 'underground supper club' where he cooks for a group of folks, inviting a mix of folks he knows, along with total strangers who sign up for his group on www.meetup.com. His dinner parties have themes, one low flat fee; he gets to experiment with ingredients, we get to eat it, and mingle, and everyone goes home fed and happy. This guy was a friend of Jeff's but had no idea he was involved with an underground supper club. As a bachelor, he had spent hundreds of dollars on restaurants, and was intrigued by the concept of the underground eating experience, as well as other ways to save on restaurant meals.
People at the table all had websites that they bookmark and subscribe to that allowed them to save money, eat well, shop discounts, and survive through tough financial times in the New York tri-state area, including. I made note of them.
